chronic pain, Physical

Hello everyone, it’s been a long while since I’ve made a new blog post.  So, I thought I’d get you up to date on what’s been going on with me.

Knee Replacement Surgery

In May 2023 I finally was able to have knee replacement surgery on my right knee.  I have so much less pain than I did previously.  There is still some pain and occasional stiffness in my right knee.  I’m putting the left one off for as long as I can and I continue to have regular neural ablation on my lower back, which helps at least a little bit with the pain.

For those of you who are wondering about the knee replacement, it was easily the most painful surgery/recovery I have ever experienced.  I stayed with my mom for about a month afterwards to recover.  I have no idea how anyone could have both knees done at the same time.  However, the pain was worth it!  I started physical therapy 2 days after my surgery (I stayed one night in the hospital and they did have me up walking the up and down the halls the next day) and I had to get up and walk the day I had surgery too.  PT was brutal at times; I cried more than once.  But it was worth it in the long run.

Disability and Medical Insurance

When the pandemic provision ended, I no longer qualified for state Medicaid.  So I was without health insurance for 2 months until I qualified for Medicare in January 2024.  I tried to go through for insurance, but since I was not working, I did not qualify for any deductions and it would have been over $600 per month for just myself.  I do have to pay a premium for Medicare, but it comes out of my monthly check automatically, so I don’t really miss it.  I also have co-pays now, which I did not have with Medicaid.

Cluster Headaches

I’ve officially been diagnosed with cluster headaches and am seeing a neurologist to try and find a medication that works.  So far, only the emgality injections have helped, but Medicare doesn’t want to pay for them.  I’m hoping and praying I can get them approved.  My headaches last up to six weeks, with 8 – 18 headaches per day.  There’s very little research on cluster headaches and very few treatment options.  They are unbearable and after a couple of weeks, I can barely function.

Working Extremely Part-Time

This month (February 2024), I have started working on a very limited part-time basis as a mental health counselor.  I only work 2 days per week, 5 hours per day.  I’m exhausted at the end of the day and I don’t believe I could work any more than this at this time.  I am enjoying working in a helping capacity again, even on such a limited basis.

I still sell Innovative+ Posh (which will be going back to it’s original name of Perfectly Posh on April 1, headed up by one of the original founders of the company.  Innov8tive and Perfectly Posh will be 2 separate companies at that time.  I have not decided as of yet whether or not I will continue with Innov8tive. I’ll update whenever I decide.  I’m also still with Kole Jax Designs, and am selling some of my personal jewelry (that no longer fits me) on eBay, Poshmark, and Mercari.  I’ve not had as much luck with these endeavors as I had hoped to have; but I’m not giving up yet.
